Major James Terry serves as commander of our Law Enforcement Operations Bureau, which includes Criminal Investigations Division, Patrol Division, and Special Operations Division. Major Terry has been with the Hernando County Sheriff's Office since May 1997. He has previously served as Vice Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Administrative Sergeant, Vice and Narcotics Sergeant, District 3 Commander, Major Cases Section Commander, District 2 Commander, and Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division. Major Terry earned a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from St. Leo University. Major Terry is a 2014 graduate of the FBI National Academy at Quantico, Virginia.
Captain Cyrus Robinson serves as commander of the Criminal Investigations Division, which includes the Major Case Section, Vice/Narcotics Section, Scientific Investigations Section, Crime Analysis Unit, and Property/Evidence Unit. He has been with the Hernando County Sheriff's Office since April 1989. Prior assignments include Patrol Division Commander, Major Case Section Commander, District 1 Commander, District 2 Administrative Sergeant, Patrol Supervisor, COPPS Unit Supervisor, Assistant SWAT Team Leader, Detective Division and Patrol Deputy. Captain Robinson is a U.S. Navy Veteran, and has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University.
Captain James T. Powers, Jr. commands our Special Operations Division which includes School Resource Officers, Community Oriented Problem Policing, Aviation Unit, Marine Unit, SWAT, Rapid Response Team, Crisis Response Team, K-9 Unit, Traffic Unit, Selective Enforcement Unit, Mounted Patrol, Field Training Program, Emergency Management, Fleet Management, Animal Enforcement Unit, Purchasing/Supply, Records Section, Chaplain Corps, and Auxiliary/Reserve Unit. He has been with the Hernando County Sheriff's Office since December 1985. His previous assignments include Communications, Patrol, Traffic Unit, School Resource Officer, High Liability Training Instructor, Agency Armorer, Community/Personnel Services Sergeant, Information Services Lieutenant, Office of Professional Services Captain and is currently Commander of the Sheriff's Honor Guard. He is certified as a Florida Crime Prevention Practitioner and holds numerous certificates in high liability law enforcement training. 2011 Command School graduate Saint Leo University.
Captain Curt Turney serves as the commander of our Patrol Division, which provides service to the citizens within District 1 and District 2. Captain Turney has been with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office since 1996. He has served as the Criminal Investigations Division Commander, which included Major Case Section, Vice/Narcotics Section, Scientific Investigations Section, Crime Analysis Unit, and Property/Evidence Unit. Additional assignments have also included: Major Case Section Lieutenant/Sergeant, District 1 Administrative Sergeant, Patrol Sergeant, Crisis Response Team Supervisor, SWAT Team member, Detective, and Patrol Deputy. Captain Turney is a U.S. Army veteran and holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from St. Leo University.
