SENTENCING UPDATE – Brooksville Man Arrested for Attempted Murder

On 06-15-2026, Joshua Worley, DOB/12-22-1990 was sentenced to 35 years in the Florida Department of Corrections, with a 25-year minimum mandatory sentence, for his role in a November 2024 shooting at a Brooksville motel.

On 11-27-2024, deputies with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting at the Sunset Motel on South Broad Street in Brooksville. Upon arrival, deputies located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen and immediately began providing life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived. The victim was transported to a local trauma center for emergency treatment.

The investigation revealed that Worley discharged a shotgun during an altercation, striking the victim and causing life-threatening injuries. Witness statements, physical evidence, and interviews conducted by detectives identified Worley as the shooter. After the incident, Worley fled the scene on foot but was quickly located and taken into custody by responding deputies.

Detectives also determined that Worley, a convicted felon, was unlawfully in possession of firearms and ammunition at the time of the incident.
