As a reminder, please follow these four major steps to ensure your safety while driving.

  • Obey speed limits
  • Buckle up
  • Don't drink and drive
  • Don't text and drive

Mental Distractions

Even with your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel, mental distractions dangerously affect drivers behind the wheel.

  • Mild Danger - Example: Listening to the radio or an audio book
  • Moderate Danger - Example: Talking on a hand-held phone or a hands-free phone
  • High Danger - Example: Using voice-activated texting or email feature

Sending or receiving a text takes a driver's eyes from the road for an average of 4.6 seconds, which at 55 mph is the equivalent of driving the length of an entire football field, blind.
