Attorneys, Public Defenders, Other Government Agencies, and Legal visits at the Hernando County Detention Center
The first time you visit a jail can be a stressful experience. Being unprepared can add to the stress and detract from the quality of the client meeting. But if you know that to expect you can prepare appropriately and make sure the visit goes as planned.
You will need to fax a letterhead to the attention of booking at 352-544-2349, with your client’s name, date, and time. Booking requires a three hour notice.
What to Bring
If you are an attorney you will need your bar card and a valid driver’s license. If you are from another government agency you will need a proper agency ID card with photo (Government agency, Department of Children and Families, Youth and Family Alternatives, Baycare, etc.). It is a good idea to bring a copy of the fax with confirmation number that the fax was sent. Please state on the fax if you need to bring in a laptop and/or an electronic device, in order to obtain prior approval. If you are having an interpreter or another attorney come in their names need to be listed on your fax.
What Not to Bring
You are not permitted to bring cell phones, tobacco products, knives, guns or any other types of weapons into the facility.
