Youth Education Services

Richard Buckingham Scholarship Goal:

(This scholarship is NOT for persons pursuing a career in Public Service, Law Enforcement, or Fire Service)

To grant a high-impact scholarship to enable a person to obtain an education (2-year, 4-year, technical, or trade school) that they may not be able to do on their own or with the means at hand.

Richard B. Nugent Scholarship Goal:

To grant a high-impact scholarship to enable a person to obtain an education (2-year, 4-year, technical, or trade school) that they may not be able to do on their own or with the means at hand. This is not for post-baccalaureate education.

Scholarship Terms:

  • This scholarship is only open to Hernando County High School Seniors.
  • This is a competitive scholarship, not all applicants will receive funding.
  • This scholarship will weigh applications based on demonstrated need, program of study, as well as the other information requested in the application.
  • This scholarship may be applied to a new enrollment or to allow a student to complete a program already in progress.
  • Only one scholarship per year per candidate will be awarded.

Application Requirements:

Completed applications containing all information must be returned no later than May 1, 2026.

Application must contain:

  • A copy of your transcript;
  • One (1) current letter of recommendation from a teacher, advisor or organization that you volunteered with;
  • A brief (no more than 2 pages) autobiography to include your reasons for applying for this scholarship, any work experience, your proposed field of study and future career plans; your interests, and any leadership positions you have held.

What is Youth Education Services?

What is Y.E.S.? Logo

The Youth Educations Services, Inc. (also known as Y.E.S.) is a non-profit organization that was formed to develop programs for growing youth population and is for charitable and educational purposes to the direct benefit of the youth of Hernando County. Y.E.S. was incorporated in the state of Florida on August 19, 2002.

Youth Education Services, Inc. is guided by a Board of Directors who participate in meetings, raise funds to meet annual financial goals, advise the sheriff on needs of our youth, promote awareness of and monitor Y.E.S. programs, and is responsible for the fiscal condition of the corporation.

The mission statement of the Y.E.S. program is to develop positive character and social values in our youth for the overall good of our community.
