Owner-Requested Euthanasia
The Hernando County Sheriff's Office - Animal Services will now offer Owner Requested
Euthanasia services for Hernando County residents.
Euthanasia services will be performed only when a pet is severely injured, extremely sick, or at the end of
life. The pet will be examined by veterinary staff to verify illness, injury, or end of life status before
performing euthanasia.
Owner Requested Euthanasia services will be available on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with appointments
each of these days at 1:00 p.m., 1:20 p.m., and 1:40 p.m. Pet owners should
arrive at the adoption center 20
minutes before their scheduled appointment to complete the required paperwork.
Pet owners will need to provide:
- A valid form of identification
- Proof of pet ownership (photos, county license, microchip registration)
- Payment for services and after-care.
If the pet's microchip is registered to someone other than the person who brings the pet in, the veterinarian
may deny service.
Cats must be contained in a cat carrier. Dogs must be on a leash.
Fees are as follows:
- Euthanasia - $75.00
- Communal Cremation - $25.00 (up to 99 pounds) $35.00 (100 pounds and over)
- Private Cremation - Will need to be arranged by the pet owner. We will provide information.
